Marie Antoinette Award

“Courage! I have shown it for years; think you I shall lose it at the moment when my sufferings are to end?” ~~MARIE ANTOINETTE~~

A very courageous Marie Antoinette award was given to me by Shydub of Simple Happy Life. Who has also shown her courage of living away her family and home to be with her own family now. A very loving mother to her child and wife to her loving husband and good friend. Thanks for the tag and the thought, I really appreciate it a lot. The story of Queen Marie Antoinette is very impressive life of courage and is the epitome of real, fun, fearless woman who never been afraid of getting what she wants. She became Queen of France and Navarre.

I am now passing this over to the following people whom I admired in this blogsphere who have also shown courage in their everyday living under all circumstances: Dhemz, Liza, Amy, Rose, Malou, Umma, Niko, Madz and Clarissa.

Are You a Shopaholic?

Posted by Cecile at Sunday, February 22, 2009 20 comments
Here are the six signs to watch out for to determine if you are a shopaholic or not :-)

Do you spend excessively?

1. You spend more when you're emotional. Do you spend money when you're blue? Do buying new clothes make you feel better? If your answers to these questions are "yes," then you may have a spending problem. Much like people who eat when they're upset, those who spend when they're feeling down are at risk for larger issues. Try to consider a less costly way to deal with your feelings like going for a run, taking a yoga class to decompress, or writing in a journal.
2. Your spending habits result in added stress. Often when a shopaholic goes on a binge, the results are more costly than he or she expected. With excessive spending comes debt; and with debt, comes phone calls from debtors, lowered credit scores, and in extreme cases, bankruptcy. If your spending habits result in
temporary happiness only to be overcome by financial stress, you may have a problem limiting your spending.

3. You can't live without plastic. The credit card is king, and overspending is commonplace. In fact, the average American household has over $8,000 in credit card debt. That number may sound like a lot to some, but to the shopaholic that statistic may ring true. Do you think you could live one week paying for all your purchases with cash? If not, then you may be too reliant on your credit card. Try to limit your credit card purchases to emergencies and use cash when shopping.

If any of these sound familiar, you might be addicted to shopping.

4. You're a compulsive spender. There's a big difference between going to the store and buying one DVD and buying ten. Compulsive spenders do not know how to set limits or differentiate between necessity and desire.

5. You're constantly making excuses. "I just had to buy that." "I couldn't live without it." "It wasn't that expensive." If you need to justify your unnecessary purchases with excuses such as these, you may be a shopaholic.
6. You've tried to control your spending in the past. Whether we are dieting, trying to exercise more, or trying to spend less money, it is a common sign that there is a problem when we try to alter the way we do things.

Posted by Cecile at Wednesday, February 18, 2009 9 comments
Well, this morning before going out for my doctor's appointment, I checked my emails and got one from Social Spark. It was the Eco- Solar Shade for $ 15.25; since I have 12 hours to complete the opps, I decided to do it when we get home. Well, when I checked it again, the opps is no longer there. Oh, it was there but I need to request for a slot. What is going on? This is the second time from SS and I don't think it is fair. It is annoying and disappointing as well. And it is getting into my nerve. Bad, so bad!!!

Eating Deli (Sandwich) Dangerous to Our Health!?

Posted by Cecile at Tuesday, February 17, 2009 3 comments

I am not really fond of eating processed foods especially meat. And that is the reason why I don't really like sandwiches or subs; plus at the back of my mind all along that there is a danger of eating salty foods. On the other hand, my husband likes it, oh well, obviously because he grew up eating it. I always remind him that to much salt and processed meat/foods are not good for him, but it is hard to stop him. Anyway, if you likes deli sandwiches, you, the next time you consider purchasing deli meat, think twice--there could be health dangers lurking behind the counter. Here is some critical information that you should know before making or buying your next sandwich.

Meat Menace
According to a growing number of health officials and researchers, seemingly harmless deli meat may be harboring a secret that could harm your health.

Due to their high levels of sodium and fat, processed meats can be bad for your heart, warns the American Heart Association. A study done by the Cancer Research Center of Hawaii stated that those who eat large amounts of processed meats have a 67 percent increased risk of developing pancreatic cancer. Plus, most deli meats also contain nitrates, which have been linked to other forms of cancer in children.

Not only could your sandwich be harmful to you, but it could be dangerous for your unborn your baby as well. According to the American Pregnancy Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, eating undercooked hot dogs, luncheon meats, or deli meats can cause dangerous infections that may lead to premature birth, miscarriage, infection of the fetus and stillbirths.

How to Avoid Deli Dangers
Before you give up your favorite sandwich for good, try these tips:

  • Check for the heart-check mark on meat packages. Heart checked packages indicate that the product is certified by the American Heart Association to be low in saturated fat and cholesterol. To find lists of certified deli meats, go to these websites for deli department meats and pre-sliced deli meats.

  • Reduce your intake of processed meats such as bologna, sausage, salami and hot dogs.

  • “Healthy” meats can be high in calories, sodium and saturated fat. Make sure to read the health information labels on the back of pre-packaged meats before making your purchase.

  • When looking for processed sandwich meats select low-fat turkey, chicken, turkey ham, turkey pastrami or lean boiled ham. Check the amount of sodium; some have 25% or more of the daily value. These need to be avoided.

  • Try finding healthier brands. Many companies now produce organic, nitrite-free deli meats that are much better for you than the usual deli counter fare.

  • Avoid meats that list sodium nitrite as an ingredient.

  • If you are pregnant, heat hot dogs, luncheon meats, or deli meats to 160 degrees.

With some thought and a little bit of investigation, your sandwich will be healthy, and keep you healthy long after it’s gone.

Being Optimistic is Good!

Posted by Cecile at Friday, February 13, 2009 2 comments

You Are A Thoughtful Idealist

You have no problem diving into new experiences. You're so brave that you don't even notice how courageous you are.

You like to think that people are impressed by you. You know that you have a lot to offer.

You are a very romantic person. You can't help but see the world as it should be.

Right now, you feel like the whole world is open to you. You see lots of possibilities.

Overall, your life is calm and steady. Not much stirs you, and each day is full of joy.

You are extremely optimistic about the future. You feel like things are always getting better.

The Castle Personality Test

Being optimistic gives you peace and comfort, that no mater what happen, you will never give up! That is the one thing we need right now especially in time of uncertainty in this troubled world. Depression happens when one starts to feel frustrated and becomes pessimist.

Owning a car is not easy as some of us may say and I agree with that. It means buying an insurance to protect the car itself and also our loved ones. But before you will actually buy one, you need to shop for the insurance with good coverage and affordable and easy payment plan and do the comparison yourself. There are lots of insurance company and it is not easy to choose which one is best. I am so lucky that I don't get a chance to do it because my husband does it. He picks at least three insurance companies and calls them for a quote. It will take time, but he can get a great deal. Nowadays, finding cheap insurance quotes is never been easier. With the modern technology, we can do the comparisons online through computer. At autoinsurance-4u.com, you can get it easy and quick. You don't have to anything like joining or sign up for email "newsletters" to get fast, free quotes. All you have to do is enter your zipcode in the designated box and click., then you can start getting auto insurance quote. And if you are looking for a cheap auto insurance, look no further for Auto Insurance-4u will provide you with auto insurance rates you are searching for. So wherever you are, whether in Texas, Virginia, New Mexico or local auto insurance, finding one is never been easier. So, based on our own experienced we found out that Allstate is better than Farmers insurance and we are glad we switch it to Farmers. What about you? Are you ready to take responsibility associated with owning a vehicle? If you say, “yes”, then wait no more, do it now and have the auto insurance-4u help you. I am sure you will never be disappointed and that you will get what you are looking for, for a car insurance. And start saving your money! I have a friend who didn't have car insurance because she thinks she didn't need it, but unfortunately, her car started making noise and the breaks was causing her trouble, too. She regretted that and have promised to herself that once she get a new car, the first thing she will do is get a car insurance.

What is a Home?

Posted by Cecile at Friday, February 13, 2009 1 comments
"Home is a haven against the storm and struggles of life. Spirituality is born and nurtured by a daily prayers, scripture study, home gospel discussions and related activities, home evenings, family councils, working and playing together, serving each other and sharing the gospel with those around us. Spirituality is also nurtured in our actions of patience, kindness and forgiveness toward each other and in our applying gospel principles in the family circle."
~~Spencer W. Kimball~~

I truly believe that this is true. We can make our homes a haven here on earth through diligent effort of applying the principles mentioned by Pres. Kimball as an individual and as a family. In my opinion this is the time to act and not to be acted upon; time to make wise decision for ourselves and our loved one and ask God for guidance.

From the Mouths of Babes

Posted by Cecile at Tuesday, February 10, 2009 4 comments
These funny things that our little one said really makes me laugh! They are very hilarious. And are making my day! Read this guys, and let yourself laugh out loud :-)
Who caused that white hair?
One day, a little girl is sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly notices that her mother has several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. She looks at her mother and inquisitively asks, "Why are some of your hairs white, mom?"

Her mother replied, "Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white." The little girl thought about this revelation for a while, and then said, "Momma, how come *all* of grandma's hairs are white?"

A Wise Little Girl
A certain little girl, when asked her name, would reply, "I'm Mr. Sugarbrown's daughter." Her mother told her this was wrong, she must say, "I'm Jane Sugarbrown." When the minister spoke to her in Sunday School, and said, "Aren't you Mr. Sugarbrown's daughter?" She replied, "I thought I was, but mother says I'm not."
Too Rough
A little girl asked her mother, "Can I go outside and play with the boys?" Her mother replied, "No, you can't play with the boys, they're too rough."

The little girl thought about it for a few moments and asked, "If I can find a smooth one, can I play with him?"

Ten Commandments

A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five- and six-year-olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor thy father and thy mother," she asked "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?" Without missing a beat one little boy answered, "Thou shall not kill."

Kissing on the Playground
An honest seven-year-old told her parents that Billy Brown had kissed her after class. "How did that happen?" gasped her mother. "It wasn't easy," admitted the young lady, "but three girls helped me catch him."
That Baby in There
For weeks, a six-year old lad kept telling his first-grade teacher about the baby brother or sister that was expected at his house. One day the mother allowed the boy to feel the movements of the unborn child. The six-year old was obviously impressed, but made no comment. Furthermore, he stopped telling his teacher about the impending event. The teacher finally sat the boy on her lap and said, "Tommy, whatever has become of that baby brother or sister you were expecting at home?" Tommy burst into tears and confessed, "I think Mommy ate it!"
Drawing God
A kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they drew. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's artwork. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was. The girl replied, "I'm drawing God." The teacher paused and said, "but no one knows what God looks like." Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing the girl replied, "They will in a minute."
Bathroom Breaks
On the first day of school, the Kindergarten teacher said, "If anyone has to go to the bathroom, hold up two fingers." A little voice from the back of the room asked, "How will that help?"
Tithing...
After the church service, a little boy told the pastor: "When I grow up, I'm going to give you some money." "Well, thank you," the pastor replied, "but why?" "Because my daddy says you're one of the poorest preachers we've ever had."
Saying Grace
My wife invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to our six-year-old daughter and said, "Would you like to say the blessing?" I wouldn't know what to say," she replied. "Just say what you hear Mommy say," my wife said. Our daughter bowed her head and said: "Dear Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?"
Children in Church
A little child in church for the first time watched as the ushers passed the offering plates. When they neared the pew where he sat, the youngster piped up so that everyone could hear: "Don't pay for me Daddy, I'm under five."
Pastor's Kids
A boy was watching his father, a pastor, write a sermon." How do you know what to say?" he asked. "Why, God tells me", the father replied. "Oh, then why do you keep crossing things out?"
Parenting
After the christening of his baby brother in church, little Johnny sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the car. His father asked him three times what was wrong. Finally, the boy replied, "That Pastor said he wanted us brought up in a Christian home, but I want to stay with you guys!"
First Things First
"If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale and gave all my money to the church, would I get into Heaven?" I asked the children in my Sunday School class.
"No!" the children all answered.

"If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and tidy, would I get into Heaven?"

Again, the answer was,"No!"

"Well, I continued, "then how can I get into Heaven?"

A five-year-old boy shouted out, "You gotta be dead!"

Are you in need of dental implants? If so, do you know what dental implants is? Let me tell you a little bit about it. A dental implants is an artificial tooth replacement made of titanium and is shaped like a screw. There are two main stages when the procedure is done. And the healing time will take about three months. The first implant is called dental implants surgery and the other one is called implants restoration. People go for this surgery because of these benefits: aesthetics, comfort, durability, improved oral health and improved hygiene. Are You Counting Calories?

Posted by Cecile at Monday, February 09, 2009 2 comments
Who hasn't spent way too much moolah on a box of those cleverly packaged 100-calorie baglettes of cookies or crackers? Even though you know they cost roughly twice what a regular bag does -- not to mention that all of that packaging is a mini environmental disaster -- they do limit temptation.

Save your dough and satisfy your snack attacks with one of these treats. Lots are single servings; nearly all the rest can be popped into snack-size plastic bags and thrown into a pocket or backpack. No willpower needed.

5 Hershey's dark chocolate Kisses or, if chocolate's gotta be Dove for you, 2 Dove Promise dark chocolate miniatures
2 fresh figs or 1 juicy pear
English muffin toasted with just enough cheddar to meltingly cover the top
1 heaping cup of cherries or 12 dried apricot halves
12 almonds
1 Dannon Light & Fit Raspberry Smoothie
1 Klondike Slim-a-Bear fudge bar or 2 Dole frozen fruit juice bars
48 Rold Gold pretzel sticks
1 Starbucks 8-ounce Caramel Macchiato, made with nonfat milk

And if you're pregnant and craving nothing but pickles, you can happily munch and crunch through 8 medium dills.

Brushing His Teeth, Fun!

Spider Man toothbrush and toothpaste, plus act make brushing Jake's teeth exciting and fun!

These items make my son excited about brushing his teeth. He brushes his teeth twice a day with my help in the morning and his Dad's help at night. I am so glad that he is not afraid of seeing the dentist anymore, in fact he changed words in his song from "going to the dentist is not a good idea" to " going to the dentist if fun after all".

Meatlovers don't get to have all the fun. Comfort food comes vegetarian, too, so try this great meat-free chili you can prepare in your slow cooker. I like this recipes because it is easy to make and almost all the ingredients are in my pantry.

Ingredients:

1 can black beans1 can garbanzo beans
1 can kidney beans

1 can stewed tomatoes (if you'd like a spicier taste, get Mexican-style stewed tomatoes)
1 can tomato sauce
1 onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, chopped

1 green pepper, chopped
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon dried basil
Chili powder to taste

Procedure: Combine all ingredients in slow cooker and stir. Simmer on medium heat for three to four hours in slow cooker.

Junk Foods for Lunch!

My husband is home from work today and tomorrow, that means got help from doing chores. He did make us breakfast this morning which he never fails doing. He then took our son to bus stop, threw garbage and did the dishes. I am glad when he is home because we can sit and relax while we watch t.v. or just talk. We always do the shopping when he is home, but not today since it is cold outside, so I don't want to go out, and he said he'll do it and he did. Did grocery shopping and of course he never forgets to bring me something to eat that way I don't need to cook our lunch. He knew exactly what I want and buys it for me :-)! And so we have junk foods for lunch (burger, fries and apple fritters), yup, that is how I call them :-)!

Playing Golf in Germany

Posted by Cecile at Tuesday, February 03, 2009 0 comments
When my Aunt came to visit us last summer, she brought her golf club with her because she can not live without playing golf everyday! I don't know whether she is addicted with golf or what. Her kids and Husband play golf, too! Anyway, when she was here, I searched for earnests golf course in our area and actually found several of them. So, the next day, my son and I accompanied her while playing golf. My son and I actually enjoyed watching her played. Lucky me for I finally been to the golf course and played with my Aunt and hubby. Now I know how it feels like to be there and play. Golf became one my favorite sports when I saw Tiger plays golf a lot of times. Since then, I have been watching every games he is in to. If you or someone you knew live in Germany, you probably know and seen a big golf portal in there called golfakademie-gmbh.de. Here they offer almost everything that has something to do with golf and that includes: tournament coverage, statistics and schedules, promotional offers, golf news, travel instructions, television listings to name some. They even have a playing test called Platzreife which is a requirement for you to be able to play on a golf course in Germany. Their school also offer Golfkurs which are available for kids until you are ready and permitted to play. There you will learn and understand the basic skills you need need in order for you to play better. There will be series of instructions and explanations of “do's” and “don'ts” in playing golf as well as the proper movements on how to hit the ball the right way. Do you know that there is also a big German Holiday they called Golfurlaub? German golfers where all golf lovers get together, to bond, socialize and enjoy each others company. How to Rekindle a Lost Friendship?

Posted by Cecile at Tuesday, February 03, 2009 4 comments
Good friends are like diamonds in the rough. They're there for you through thick and thin and even help to improve health and longevity. But what happens if you've lost touch with someone who was once incredibly close to you—is it too late to re-connect? Here are some tips I got from Quality Health website, written by Seth Czarnecki

Think. It's important to consider what made you lose touch to begin with. Was it the natural course of things? Did you both get caught up in the melee of everyday life? Or was it something more serious and painful? Remembering why it happened—and being honest about it—is crucial to how you approach the subject.

Contact. Do your best to contact your friend via email or telephone. Keep in mind that just as you’re busy, so is your friend. Getting in touch and having a conversation may take some time. It's easy to feel discouraged when you’re extending the olive branch and it’s not being accepted immediately. Be patient.

Ease in. Have realistic expectations for that first conversation—especially if the last time you talked was 8 months ago or ended on bad terms. Have a friendly, open tone as you ask what they’ve been doing or how they’ve been. If things go well, carry on a light hearted chat.

Explore. If there are still hard feelings, don't be afraid to address them. You were friends for a reason, and given the right amount of maturity and handling of the initial problem, there should be no reason why it can’t happen again. Avoid coming across as confrontational by using "I" statements. For example: "I felt (this) when (this happened)" or "Looking back, I feel like (this) because of (this)." By using this method, you can express your feelings without pointing the finger.

Be honest. As any relationship goes, honesty holds all things together. This remains true when trying to rekindle a friendship. Coming out and saying you miss your friendship is good. Being honest about your feelings shows transparency and trust. Most importantly, be honest with both your friend and yourself about what it will take to make things work.

Work. It will take work regardless of whether or not you attempt was successful. If you were not able to rekindle your friendship, it will take some work on your behalf to move on and leave the past in the past. However, if you both agree to move on with your relationship, it will require efforts on both your parts to maintain the friendship. Keep in contact periodically and try to get together. Friendships that are worthwhile can withstand the worst of disputes and rebound from the longest hiatus.
