"The ability and willingness properly to rear children, the gift to love, and eagerness … to express it in soul development, make motherhood the noblest office or calling in the world. She who can paint a masterpiece or write a book that will influence millions deserves the admiration and the plaudits of mankind; but she who rears successfully a family of healthy, beautiful sons and daughters, whose influence will be felt through generations to come, … deserves the highest honor that man can give, and the choicest blessings of God.” ~ David O. McKay ~

Happy Mother's Day to All the Mothers Out There!

“Motherhood is the greatest potential influence either for good or ill in human life. The mother’s image is the first that stamps itself on the … young child’s mind. It is her caress that first awakens a sense of security; her kiss, the first realization of affection; her sympathy and tenderness, the first assurance that there is love in the world. ~ David O. McKay ~

Since this week's theme for Mommy Moments is about advices we can share to mothers and expectant mothers alike, here are some that my husband and I use at home while rearing our son:

1. Be an example of good works, and words. Our children learn from the way we talk, the way we treat others, the way we conduct ourselves and they way we live. So we need to be careful with all of our actions.
2. Be patient. Raising children is not an easy job; it needs more patient and love.
3. Be consistent and firm. You need to mean what you say.
4. Teach them them importance of responsibility. Parents are the first teachers our kids would ever have. So we should start teaching our kids while young about responsibilities, that will make them independent.
5. Tell them you love them everyday.
6. Be there for them when they need you. Assure them that you will always be there for them no matter what.
7. Help them develop their full potential. They have talents, we need to help them see and develop it. Expose them to educational activities like museums, visit to a library to name a few.
8. Be a good listener. We can learn from our kids as we listen to what they have to say.
9. Avoid labeling. They have their own names; so let's call they by their names. Labeling our kids lowers their self esteem.
10. And most of all
train them up the way God wanted them to be. For God says: Train up your child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

I must admit, even though we use these tips at home, doesn't mean we are perfect parents...or we have perfect son.... we are just like them trying to be better parents and people at the same time. And with God's guidance and our faith in HIM, I know that our kids are going to be better person, one who have faith in God and in doing what is right under all circumstances. As parents we are partners of God in raising a righteous generation.
