Our weekend activities...

Posted by Cecile at Monday, June 30, 2008 0 comments
My son and I woke up early today because we have a lot of things to do. First, we went to a farmers market here in Ashland. They do it every Saturday so we decided to go. And so we went. I was disappointed to see it for the first time. There were not a lot of farmers and the fruits and veggies were both too pricy and surprisingly, most of them were selling flower plants! Was that a kind of joke or what? Oh well, now I learned my lesson that you can not expect things the way you imagine it to be. I bought eggplant, dill, garlic and potatoes, anyway, just to save me from driving to Wal Mart ; it was not on my plan. Then, we dropped by at the Post Office and bought some one cent stamps. The next destination? Mall, we went to the mall, and glad we did. There were a lot of things to do there for the kids esp. on top of the Play place, there was this stall and they were taking kids to become member of the Kidgots. I really like it for the reason that Jacob can do better things while at mall than shopping and eating. I got Jacob a membership for only five bucks! Yes, it is a one year membership with free t-shirts, stickers, crayons, apron and pot holder (for him especially), games which he will win no matter what, snacks and a ticket drawing. We both enjoyed that trip to the mall. Of course we did some shopping, ate lunch there and have this free ice cream sandwich at the food court and a milk, too, yes it was free again. Then, there was a health awareness that was going on from a milk company; they gave people a small glass of milk and then you drink it; then after that you can have a picture be taken if you want to while you have still a moustache from the milk, boy it was really a fun experienced for me and Jacob. He really liked it there that he keeps telling me that he wants to go to the mall again, which we will every other Saturday, it is going to be on our calendar! We stopped at Good Will on the way home to see if I can find shoes and short for Jacob, which we didn't find anything.

Oh! missed it again...

Posted by Cecile at Wednesday, June 25, 2008 3 comments
Two weeks ago, when my Aunt from California visited us, my son (Jacob) and I went with her and watched her plays. She is addicted to golf, BTW. You guys know esp. those who play golf or at least love to watch golf on the Television, like I do that before the player really hit the golf ball, he/she needs to try it first then hit it. Well, my son says this world (oh! missed again loudly!) every time he sees the players try it first. There was this woman and her husband who were playing with my Aunt. The woman was new and is still learning to play. She missed a lot of ball, literally not hitting the ball at all. Anyway, one time, my son saw her missed it and loudly said "oh! missed again, sounding disappointed. You will probably laugh when you hear him say that, just like I did :-). It was embarrassing, so I said to my son “no anak she was just trying it”; just to save her from such embarrassment.

The Best Gift Ever

Posted by Cecile at Wednesday, June 25, 2008 1 comments
Thanks Yums and Glorie for this very inspiring and touching tag; God Bless You for doing this.

*** Start Here ***
Friendly Rules:1. Simply copy the inspirational story and in the end write down the lesson you have learned out from this. 2. Put your own blog name and link. Pass or tag this to your friends to inspire them. 3. Start copy from “Start here” until “End Copy” to your blog.
--- The Best Gift Ever ---
A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car.
Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said,"With all your money you give me a Bible?"And stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible.
Many years passed and the young man was verysuccessful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things. When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart.
He began to search through his father's important papers and saw the stillnew Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt 7:11,"And if ye, being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?" As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words...PAID IN FULL.
How many times do we miss God's blessing because they are not packaged as we expected? I trust you enjoyed this. Pass it on to others. Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for...
PLS. SEND THIS TO AT LEAST FIVE PEOPLE SO AS TO LET THIS GREAT LESSON FLOW AROUND.
End Copy
Lesson I learned: (The best gift doesn't always come with the nice packages, the Bible itself is a gift)

Our trip to Florida...

Posted by Cecile at Tuesday, June 24, 2008 0 comments
I was gone for a week last week; we went to visit my relatives in Florida. All we did was visiting and eating more Filipino foods. I really enjoyed the time spent together there. We stayed for three nights and two days. Saturday, we headed back home. On the way we went to Savannah, Georgia and did sight seeing at the historic place where Paula Deen's restaurant and store were. We tried to fall in line so we can eat at her restaurant, that it was so popular before you can eat, you have to make reservation the next day by going there as early as 8:30am to have dinner and you are not even sure if you will be lucky enough to have dinner the same day. So we decided to pass it that time, we shop at her store instead. Then we went to St. Simon Island; the beach was so pretty. Too bad we don't have time to swim. After spending a night at a motel, we continue our journey home with the last stop at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Oh man! It was so beatiful in there that we are planning to go back in Sept. where it wouldn’t be as busy as it is now. There are a lot of things to do there. That place is really a place for a family vacation. I recommend that you guys go see it for yourself. Anyway, I will post some of our pictures taken there.

using flour in the washing machine...?

Posted by Cecile at Saturday, June 14, 2008 3 comments
I have been busy today doing the laundry, changing the beddings and cleaning and tidying the whole house because my Aunt is coming today from New York. We haven't seen each other for almost seven years. I lived with her in Malaysia before I got here in America. We will be picking her up at the airport this afternoon (4:30pm).
Anyway, while I was loading the laundry in the washing machine, my son, Jacob asked if he could help me and I said "yes", then he started loading it with me. After we loaded the dirty clothes into the washing machine, he asked "Mommy where's the flour? Aren't we going to put flour in the washing machine? I laughed because I think it was funny when he calls the powdered laundry soap "flour". I said what flour? He pointed his finger at the cabinet where I put all the laundry stuff. He is really making laugh a lot lately. Oh! My happy helper...isn’t he sweet or what? I love him so much….

we were relieved ...

Posted by Cecile at Wednesday, June 11, 2008 2 comments
My son is turning four this July and is now attending Pre- School (mother's day out) five times a week and is enjoying it. Lately, he has been terrified seeing the doctor that he would cry the moment we get inside the clinic. He screams like you are hurting him or stuff like that. Now that he is about to go to the Pre- K public school), one of the requirements to get admitted is dental report. So, today we went to see a dentist who I can say was the best one; because for just five minutes they were able to convince him to sit and have his teeth checked without fuss. He actually enjoyed it, we were all amazed. Before that, we were worried that he would get hysterical and would scream loud; but we were wrong, it was the opposite. We were so glad. Now we are sure that it wouldn't be a problem anymore seeing a doctor (at least a dentist :-)...) Yeheyyyy :-)!

Salmonella outbreaks…in tomato!

Posted by Cecile at Tuesday, June 10, 2008 5 comments

Guys, ever heard about Salmonella tomato outbreaks? It already hit 16 states. Yes, the FDA and the CDC warned people who got sickedlast week after eating raw tomatoes served in the restaurant and also in the store shelves. It is now estimated that 167 people affected by it and are sicked and hospitalized. As we all know, Salmonella bacteria can cause diarrhea, nausea, fever and abdominal pain. FDA said not all tomatoes are affected by Salmonella, only those red tomatoes like: plum, roma and red round tomatoes. There are tomatoes that are not off limits; we can still enjoy eating tomatoes like: grape, cherry, tomato on the vine and homegrown tomato. The 16 states that were affected are: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
Because of the outbreak, the FDA advices us not to eat raw tomatoes mentioned, unless they came from states which were not affected by the outbreaks such as: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, New York, Nebraska. North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, Belgium, Canada, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Israel, Netherlands and Puerto Rico. We need to be careful on where the tomatoes came from before we buy it and don’t forget to wash them before using it and that goes with the other fruits and vegetables we are eating/using, I think. Bummer, we love tomatoes in the house. Search for it at www.webmd.com .

the Golden Girls!

Stay At Home Mom (SAHM) , me!

Posted by Cecile at Monday, June 09, 2008 0 comments
I am a stay at home mother who wants to earn extra to make ends meet. Between rent, bills, medicines (immunosuppressant for my kidney transplant), money to send to my parents in the Philippines, son's tuition fee and everything; my husband's income is not enough for all our expenses. I need to help him. Then one day, a friend (Juliet) of mine told me about this thing called “Blog” and how to get paid just by writing the things that I like and interested in. I became interested and now I am in and am actually addicted to it. I know I can help be of help with our expenses by doing the blogs. I am glad that I can earn without leaving the comfort of our home, spend time with my family and do the things I like to do in my own pace. Who wouldn't love that!

breast cancer month...

Posted by Cecile at Sunday, June 08, 2008 0 comments
Juliet, Michelle and JM passed me this very important and meaningful tag. This tag is about the Breast Cancer Site. If you click on the pink “Click Here to Give - it’s FREE” button, you’re helping the site fund free mammogram for women. They need our help, so click the pink button as many times as you can. That’s a little effort to do but would certainly help.

I am asking/tagging everyone who wants to participate. Thanks!

We went to see/tour Patrick Henry's house in Scotchtown, Virginia. It was pretty neat seeing his house and some of the original furnitures he owns and the layout of the whole house and everything. Behind us was his house.

Remember his famous line during the revolution? "Give me liberty or give me death", that was Patrick Henry!
