Buying in Bulk

Posted by Cecile at Saturday, November 29, 2008 6 comments
It doesn't take a math wizard to know single-serve packages are pricey. But heeding the ins and outs of bulk buying is important if you want to net the most savings.
Big warehouse clubs, food co-ops, natural food stores, and even regular supermarkets sell bulk quantities of food. The key to figuring out whether or not the savings is significant depends on several factors. Here are four things to keep in mind:

1. Frequency of use It's no big deal to buy paper towels, paper plates, or toilet paper in bulk since these items last forever and will eventually be used. 2. Cost per ounce Sometimes shelf tags underneath a food item break down the cost per ounce for different-sized packages of an item so it's easy to compare cost. 3. The "sale" factor Supermarkets and discount merchants run weekly specials on fruit, meat, or even laundry detergent. 4. Membership dues Most warehouse clubs charge $40-$50 annual membership fees, so the savings disappear if you shop there infrequently.

More tips for the bulk-minded:
It doesn't take a math wizard to know single-serve packages are pricey. But heeding the ins and outs of bulk buying is important if you want to net the most savings.

Start your own bulk co-op with friends, family, or church groups. Buy 50 pound bags or rice, beans, flour, and oats and divvy them up between the group.
Steer clear of single serve packages since price tags can be double or triple the usual cost. Instead, buy yogurt, pudding or chips in bulk and repackage them yourself.
Buy steaks, hamburger, chicken, and pork chops in bulk packages and rewrap and freeze for future use.
Purchase large blocks of cheese and grate yourself with a food processor. Repackage inusable quantities and freeze.
Consider cooking in bulk; this way you can freeze leftovers for future meals. For example, if a big package of hamburger is on sale, cook triple the usual chili recipe and divide leftovers and freeze. See our
Freezing Foods article for more ideas.

I am glad that we are doing this thing at church where we can save money by buying in bulk. Also it helps prepare for a disaster or emergency. If you are like me who buys in bulk, better try the ideas here I have found at AllRecipes.com. You can also find more money saving tips in their website.

Cookie and Brownie Mix In a Jar

Posted by Cecile at Saturday, November 29, 2008 0 comments
Most of the cookie and brownie varieties of mix-in-a-jar recipes will fit into a 1-quart or 1-liter wide-mouth canning jar, as long as you pack the ingredients in as tightly as possible. One quart equals 4 cups; one liter equals just over 4 cups. Some of the mix-in-a-jar recipes may be a bit confusing: if you add up all the cups it equals more than the maximum amount of four! This is because the ingredients, if packed down properly in the jar, will lose volume and thus be able to fit. Careful packing is the key.

After placing one ingredient in the jar, press it down with a utensil with a fairly wide flat bottom (a long-handled tart tamper works especially well). Do this after each and every ingredient, especially after adding ingredients like brown sugar, flour, oats, nuts, confectioners' sugar, cocoa powder, shredded coconut and dried fruits.

White sugar will seep down into layered items like colored candies, chocolate chips, nuts, etc. It's better to put white sugar below these ingredients.

All-purpose flour and confectioners' sugar also have the same seeping problem, so follow the guidelines for white sugar.
The layers will stand out most if you pack the highly contrasting items next to each other.

I think this is a nice idea for giving gifts especially with your neighbors this coming Chirstmas. It is our family tradition to give our neighbors and friends cookies on Christmas. This year I am planning to use this idea instead of baking cookie myself; it saves me time and money, plus it would be fresh from their oven.

I love flowers and gardening; and one of my favorite flowers is Hibiscus or Gumamela (in Tagalog). In this picture, the color combination is very pretty, don't you think? Someday, when we finally buy a house (hopefully soon) again, I will ake sure that I grow this on my garden for it is also my husband's favorite flower second to daffodils.

Earn More Blogging with Dragon Naturally Speaking

Posted by Cecile at Friday, November 28, 2008 2 comments
If you haven’t heard about Dragon Naturally Speaking 10, then let me tell you something important about it. It is speech recognition software that turns your voice into text 3x faster than most people type. And it is also software that is 99% accurate. Dragon Naturally speaking recognizes your voice instantly and it improves continually the more it is use. It uses your voice to dictate and edit any Windows application, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook Express to name a few. This software is easy to use and when you purchase it, it comes with high-quality headset and everything you needed to start with. Plus Nuance offers 25% off Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Standard. Just so you know the white paper is available at
http://www.softduit.com/mavenmappersinformation/category/software/dragon-naturally-speaking/ .Go get yours today.

Press Release:

This is an excerpt from a white paper discussing how bloggers can earn more money through several different monetization and freelance writing services. It shows that bloggers that utilize Dragon Naturally Speaking can earn more money through these various services and how fast these extra earnings will pay for the software itself. Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Blogger Break Even Analysis with High PayPerPost Earnings In this article I'm going to walk you through another scenario focusing on how much extra you could earn if you wrote for PayPerPost.com. Now at PayPerPost.com, the amount of money that you earn for your writing is not paid on a per word basis.
PayPerPost.com offers up opportunities, they call them opportunities, but you can also think of them as piecework or a job, and these "opportunities" typically have a minimum word count. The minimum word count is typically 200 words for your average article. In general the average article at PayPerPost on a high earning blog pays about $28. Sometimes they pay a little less, and sometimes they pay a little bit more.
Now if you are paid $28.00 to write a 200 word article, which breaks down to about 14 cents per word. That is about 200 times more than what you can make at textbroker.com. I mentioned that only for comparison purposes, because PayPerPost.com limits you to writing three articles per blog per day. That means that you can't write there all day long for your single blog. (If you have additional blogs, you might be able to write additional articles on those other blogs.)
But if we assume, just to have a comparison to our textbroker.com example, if we assume that you could type articles at PayPerPost for fifty minutes straight, earning 14 cents per word, and you could type 35 words per minute, and then you could earn a $245 dollars per hour at PayPerPost. Now obviously, there's not that much work there, but this does point to the rate at which you can earn things with the work that is available. That $245 would be the earnings you could make from about 8.8.
Opportunities at $28 per Opportunity.
So bear with me with this example. :-)
So what can faster typing skills do to help you earn more money and PayPerPost?
Well if you could type at 150 words per minute with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and you currently type at 35 words per minute, then you could earn about $805 per hour more!
Reminder - This would assume that you could type articles nonstop at a hundred and fifty words per minute for fifty minutes. For most of us, that doesn't mean a whole lot.
But to put this in better perspective, if you earned $245 from writing about nine articles, and those articles were each 200 words long, then you would have written a total of 1800 words.
• 1800 words can be typed and 50 minutes at 35 words per minute
• 1800 words can be typed in 12 minutes at 150 words per minute
Dragon NaturallySpeaking can essentially save you 38 minutes when you write nine articles.
Now with those additional thirty-eight minutes, you can spend more time:
• promoting your blog,
• networking with people,
• researching other projects,
• taking on other work from other networks
• building up a new blog to command $28 per article!
You can pocket your $245 from twelve minutes worth of work. You can then spend the rest of that hour, working to ensure that the blog you publish those on performs very well. But the point is this,
Dragon NaturallySpeaking can save you so much time, that it will pay for itself very quickly.
Your average part-time blogger may easily afford to pay for Dragon NaturallySpeaking with the additional profits that they would earn from using Dragon NaturallySpeaking in less than 30 minutes worth of blogging. :-)
Plus just think of all of the time, that you would now have to make yourself and your site even more successful!

Netbook sucked!

Posted by Cecile at Friday, November 28, 2008 2 comments
We planned of going early to Black Friday sale at 5am, but for some reason I didn't get up early, so we ended up going at 8:30am. We went first at Best Buy to see if they have best deals on netbooks. Unfortunately they didn't have. What a bummer, why did they put it on the flyer? We ended up buying one that wasn't for sale. I like it so we bought it. Then went to Wal-Mart for my son's firemen hat which by the way he calls it helmet :-). Our last destination was at Bass Pro; bought hubby a denim pant. The hat with swiss knife deal was already sold out at 9:30am, poor hubby he really want to get those items. We left after waiting for long line at the check out counter.. As soon as we got home, hubby charged it and when the netbook was fully charged, set it up and started using it when setting up was done. At first it was ok, but after an hour, man it started to just stop and got stack, I tried waiting but it sucked! One more thing, just all of sudden windows that are opened just closed by itself, windows open without searching or opening. I will return it as soon as hubby wakes up after nap. I can not believe I fell for this netbook! The only thing that I like about it is that, it is light. I will never recommend it to anyone who is interested on buying one. I am thinking of buying a laptop instead.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

In the classic movie White Christmas, Bing Crosby's character sings, "When I'm worried and I can't sleep/I count my blessings instead of sheep." In this uplifting holiday movie, it sounds like a wonderful concept. But in real life when money worries and job stresses are keeping you up at night, counting blessings to fall asleep doesn't always seem realistic.

You are a Believer

You believe in God and your chosen religion.

Whether you're Christian, Muslim, Jewish, or Hindu...

Your convictions are strong and unwavering.

You think your religion is the one true way, for everyone.

I am pleased with the result of the test, for I am indeed a believer, just like anybody else I know. I truly believe in the Supreme Being who is All Knowing and Loving God. The Creator of Heaven and Earth and everything. The Father of Us All!

I have been thinking of what to give my son this Christmas. He almost has every toy he could ask for because he is spoiled by his grandparents and Aunt, not to mention his Dad, but not to me! Then one day while I was surfing through the net I've found Mega Brands Store online that sells toys like Mickey Mouse club, Cars, Diego, Dora the Explorer and more. I really like the Mickey Mouse Garage; and mickey mouse cars is perfect for my son who loves playing with cars so much! It will really keep his imagination going for its colors, shapes and oh, they are so lovable. My son is very special to me/us because he brings so much joy in our life since he was born. He was a blessing from God, a miracle! He is the most patient little boy I have ever met in my life, sweet, forgiving and loves Mommy and Daddy so much. If you are looking for a gift to give to the special child or your child, you night want to visit MegaBrands.com for they have wide selections of Disney toys you can think of that will surely be loved by children from ages 3-6 year old.

I love this movie...

Have you seen the movie 13 going 30? Before when it was on the theater, I didn't like it. But then again, when I watched it today, it made me cry. It really is a nice movie that I will recommend to watch. It has moral value, too! And Mark Garapalo and Jennifer Garner did a good job with their roles. It was a love story movie with very nice and sweet ending. If you get the chance rent and see it for yourself. You will enjoy and love it!

Brightstorm, Great Education Site for Teens

Posted by Cecile at Monday, November 24, 2008 4 comments
Parents always want what’s best for their children and that’s the reason why they sent them to high school that provides good quality education; and in a school that teaches good values to the students. But for some unavoidable circumstances like peer pressures and transportations to name a few it becomes hard for both parent and child to accomplish it. Some lives far away from school and some got along with wrong friends. That is the reason why many people opt for online education which is indeed very convenient both for parent and child and everyone. One of those schools is Brightstorm; it is education sites where parents and teachers can help their children reach their full potential through interesting and cool online video lessons that will definitely make learning fun for kids. Students can also choose their own course and select a good teacher from around the nation. The fun thing is that teachers use concepts from everyday scenarios, uses pictures, step by step instructions and lots of good examples Brightstorm also offers educational effectiveness, value, funness and professionalism of content not to mention of their courses compliments in- school learning, helping teens fill in gaps, cement their knowledge and improve grades. Layaway for the Holidays

Posted by Cecile at Sunday, November 23, 2008 0 comments
Christmas is just around the corner and some people might be done shopping for the holidays and others are just waiting to shop after Thanksgiving. I wished I have done shopping now; but that doesn’t happen for so many reasons. I am done shopping gifts at least for my family back home ready to be shipped. As for my in-laws and friends, that is still a shopping on the way. With the looming economy, am sure most people wouldn’t be able to shop for money is very tight. Some probably counts for their paychecks before Holiday before they will shop for presents. But there is a worry that whatever you want wouldn’t be available anymore when it is time for you to shop. Good news for you, there is a way where you can pick items out and make sure they are still there in time Christmas and that is through Kmart Layaway for the Holidays. The process is very simple and easy; you just need to pick items up you want and put them in layaway. Want to save even more? There is a link provided for a coupon to be printed and take it with you at the store to save $5 off with a purchase of $50 or more. It is like getting your layaway free; with the use of coupon worth $5. The layaway is over eight weeks and you pay 25% of the balance every two weeks; and once you are done paying the items, then you can take items with you. When shopping there are things you can not put on layaway and these are the following: beer, wine, cigarettes, flammable products, live plants, chemicals, gas additives and more. Just visit their website for more products you can not put on layaway. The thing you need to keep in mind, no new layaways will be accepted between December 12, 2008 and January 2, 2009. So you better put items on a layaway now for holidays. One more thing that I like is that if you see something that you want to get and you didn’t get it this year, you can lay it away for yourself for next year’s holidays. Isn’t Kmart cool?

Yes, your majesty....

Posted by Cecile at Saturday, November 22, 2008 6 comments
While my son and I were putting his puzzle together, some of the pieces fell down on the floor. I asked him to pick them up for me so we can continue putting the pieces into places. And so he did do what I told him; it was funny becuase he said "yes your majesty". I did't know where he learned that, but it's kind of cute hearig it from a four year old boy, not to mention from my own son. I always like it when I hear a child calls they parents "father and mother" instead of Mommy and Daddy. I like it. I just wished I started telling my son to call me that way when he was still young; I mean when he was still learning to talk. Now if I ask him now to call us father and mother it will confuse him because he is already used on calling us Mommy and Daddy.

Christmas For Payatas

Posted by Cecile at Saturday, November 22, 2008 1 comments
Poverty is very rampant especially on the third world countries like Philippines. It cause children to go hungry to the point that they go scavenging on the Smokey Mountain or dump site to feed themselves and their families. Thanks to the organizations like the Lighthouse Center for Children Foundation who operates and get much needed help to alleviate the suffering of these children. Christmas For Payatas is a project organized for the children in Payatas so they can celebrate Christmas with their happily. The money the organizations raised will also go to help build houses and a means for livelihood to the Payatas community.

Press Release:

The landfill in Payatas, The Philippines, is notoriously known the world over as Smokey Mountain. For over 35 years, the smoking dump site has grown to become a stark and heart-tugging reminder of the desperate onditions of humanity.

On a daily basis, children pick through newly arrived garbage to collect material to sell. The earnings made by one child are not enough to even buy food for the day. Hence, entire families are forced to climb the mountain each day, hoping to earn enough to feed everyone. Children as young as four years old are forced to work in this daily struggle for survival.

In response to the plight of these children, Totedaddy.com is working with Lighthouse Center For Children Foundation to bring a little cheer to the children this Christmas. Totedaddy.com has kicked off with a cash sponsorship of USD 10,000 to enable the children to celebrate Christmas. FusionExcel International has also pitched in a USD 5,000 in cash sponsorship.

The money raised will help fund the projects already in place, and help fund additional projects aimed at providing better housing, and a means of livelihood for the Payatas community.

It is hoped that by creating better awareness to the plight of these children, more support can be garnered towards their betterment. Together we can bury poverty!

Operation Mojo

Natnalex
I don't know if you are familiar with these two brothers. Alex and Nat Wolff are only 10 and 13 years of age respectively; Alex (drummer) and Nat Wolff (singer/songwriter) have nonetheless managed to gather a dedicated fanbase. They have formed a band called "Naked Brothers Band" and became famous for it. Aside from having a band, they also have a popular show at Nickelodeon and even have an upcoming movie called Operation Mojo. The movie is part documentary and a part rock musical comedy of the Teenick series, The Naked Brothers Band. And it is going to be aired on the 22nd of November 8pm EST time at Nickelodeon. Thousands of fans of these two talented Nickelodeon brothers are probably anxiously awaiting the opportunity to enter the live chat with their idols just an hour before the episode (7pm EST) starts. Nat's lost his Mojo, and he needs your help to get it back. Just visit the site, spread the word, and remember to tune in to the show at Nickelodeon on Saturday. Want to know more about the Naked Brothers Band? Simply visit their website at natnalex.com . Hope you all have the fun watching the movie. Don't forget to subscribe to their Youtube channel.

I like the results of this test :-) I am indeed a creative giver; I make sure that the gifts I give will be loved by the recipient. I spend hours and hours finding the right gift for that person or I make it myself especially for her or him.

During lunch time today, hubby and I decided to go to Wal-Mart to buy some groceries. On our way there, he said he is starving. So we went to McDonalds and bought ourselves burgers and drinks. We ate at the parking lot of Wal-Mart before going inside the store. While we were eating, Matt got a phone call from one of the company he applied for. He stopped eating and took the call, while waiting I saw one of the customers loading her grocery bags up at the back of her car. I didn't like what she did when she just left the grocery cart behind her car and drove away. What a jerk! The grocery cart park is just few steps away from her. The cart was left in the middle of the parking lot! What was she thinking? The cart will eventually move forward and damage somebody else’s car. I hate it when people do that.

Even though summer is still a long way, you might want to stock up with swimmer, that way you do not have to run to the store to buy new one when summer comes. Black Friday Comes Early This Year!

Posted by Cecile at Tuesday, November 18, 2008 0 comments
I was online early today and read this article on YahooNews and thought you guys, might want to know which stores are having early sales this year. Here you can read it and what products they have special discount; they statrted as early as the 8th of this month, November.

These are tough economic times, so retailers are launching their Black Friday specials weeks early to motivate budget-conscious buyers. You can normally find the latest Black Friday ads on sites like BlackFriday.info, Bargainist.com, DealTaker.com, BFads.net, and TheBlackfriday.com, so check those out before you go shopping this weekend, because it looks like retailers are slashing prices early this year.

Here's a list of sales happening right now, just to give you an idea:
Walmart: Starting November 8th, Walmart will have in-store specials starting at 8 am. The retailer will be selling several 15.4-inch Compaq CQ50-139WM laptops for $298, Sony's 2GB Walkman player for $49, Samsung's S760 point-and-shoot digital camera in red for $89, a 46-inch Sanyo 1080p LCD HDTV for $798. Check out the flyer here.

Best Buy will also be marking down the eMachines laptop (eMD620-5777) for $299 according to BFAds.net. The laptop includes a 14.1-inch screen, 1GB DDR2, 160GB hard drive, Windows Vista, and AMD Athlon 2650e processor. The site has a side-by-side comparison of this laptop versus the Compaq notebook being sold at Walmart.

Kmart is offering the 32-inch Sylvania LCD HDTV for $440 and the Wii Fit for $90, according to I4U, and Sears has a lot of sales in the electronics department too, so check those out. Circuit City will be closing some stores this quarter, so it may be running lots of promotions off and online too. Engadget HD found this Sony Blu-ray player for $177 on its website, so you might want to look around between now and Black Friday for more savings.

Fashionable Maternity Clothes

Posted by Cecile at Monday, November 17, 2008 0 comments

I have been thinking of what to give to my sister in-law who had just gave birth to their son, Grant. I went to the mall to shop for the new parents gifts but I couldn’t find one that I think both of them would really like. Now that one of my friends just gave birth recently to their new baby girl, my problem with buying gifts for these new parents suddenly became harder. Then after nearly an hours of searching the net, I found an online store who sells the best gifts you can not imagine for new parents! I didn’t know which one to pick. They have everything, from gifts to new parents to pregnant or expecting parents, they have it. They also have clothes for new mom, expectant mom and the baby. Diaper bags, skin care, books and journals, DVD and videos, gift certificates and even something for nutrition. And if you are a pregnant woman, you can use their gift registry online and that would make it easier for you and your friends to shop for the gifts to bring on your Baby Shower Party. Isn’t their website cool or what? My favorite is the More Fun Things To Do section on their website where you can find baby names, due-o-matics calculator, customized your announcements, baby astrology, podcast and more. I wished I am pregnant again so I can go crazy at Due Maternity for they also offers maternity clothing that are fashionable, stylish and quality made not to mention that they sell them for a bargain price. Right now, they offer free shipping for the Holiday, just don't forget to mention the shipping code "BLOG1" at the check out counter.

Done Talking with the Landlord

I am glad because I am feeling better now after the incident yesterday. Thanks to you my online buddies who offered advices and kindness as well as understanding of how I reacted with regards to our neighbors next door. We decided to fix the damages made in the van ourselves, that way we would be able to save money from having other do it for us. Yup, we talked with the Landlord, but it doesn't seem to us that they will do something about it. What we have planned to do after talking with them is finish the lease and move to a much better and safer place.

I am about to explode...

Posted by Cecile at Sunday, November 16, 2008 8 comments
Have you ever live in apartment where your next door neighbors are very inconsiderate? Inconsiderate when it comes to making noises even in the middle of the night; the computer's on in a loud volume. What about bouncing back and forth on the wall anytime of the day. And oh, one more thing, how about parking the car very close to your car that when they open the door will give you car a dig and worse chipped the paint off twice in less 15 minutes. I feel like am going to explode. I knew it was going to happen, becuase I saw him last night having trouble parking his big truck, sure enough in the morning, I saw two paint chipped out of our new van, not to mention the long scratch made two weeks ago. Alright, I know living in apartment comes with a lot of inconveniences, but please if you are nice and considerate and sensitive person even living in apartment, you will try not to make many noises as possible. I always tell my son to lower his voice, do not run, jump, scream or play or bang his toys on the wall for our neighbor will hear it. It has been eight months now since our moved here in apartment; I can’t take it anymore. There were times that I would like to go there and talk to them about their noises, but my husband told me to calm down and be a Christian; what do you mean Christian? What do you think I have been doing here? I have trying to be patient with them the whole eight months. Isn't that enough? I am sorry, just need to voice out what I am feeling right now. My hubby is not home yet, got no one to talk to. Anyway, his morning when I was getting in to the van going to church, noticed the thing they did last night on the van and I was like, gosh! Please God give more patience and forgiveness in my heart so I forgive them and have peaceful feelings while at church; God did answer my prayers. I was able to forget at the whole thing and was at peace the whole time my son and I was at church. Then, just now, they have been making noises again; as expected; bad feeling came into my mind and am about to explode again. Yeah, God wants us to be nice and kind; but what I can do, am just imperfect human trying to be perfect, but with the neighbor likes these one, am not sure if I can hold this bad feeling anymore.

Catching Criminals Made Easier

Posted by Cecile at Saturday, November 15, 2008 0 comments
In the city where we used to live, the crime is very much everywhere especially theft. We lived where business are very near to our house. And almost everyday there is at least one burglary in the area. Finally, the city came out with the solution to decrease or at least avoid this crime. They adviced the business establishments to put wireless security camera systems to monitor the criminals who do series of theft. If you own a business or even just an ordinary citizen, you might want to secure yourself or love ones by putting one in your home. At IT Planet , you can find wide selections of security camera available. The great thing about them is that they do fast installation and you don’t need a cable company to do it for you; a wireless CCTV is a convenient alternative to standard security cameras. You can even quickly move it to new locations when necessary and still record and transmit quality live images. Go to their site now to protect you family and business.

Fortune Teller, Wrong!

Posted by Cecile at Friday, November 14, 2008 8 comments
When I was a little girl, I used to believe on fortune teller. One time my mother's friend came to visit her; while waiting for my mother in the living room, she asked if I want my palm to be read by her and I said "yes" and so she started reading. After reading she told me that I am going to marry an old man and we would have lots of children. So I hold on to that to see if it is really going to happen till I became a young woman. Fortunately, that didn't happen. I never got into any relationship with an old man in my entire single life, thank goodness! So I stopped believing with fortune tellers since (not that I want to marry old man) I am glad I didn't. I am now happily married with my husband who is only 2 years older than me :-) and blessed with an active but smart son (that's what his teacher told us during the Parents and Teachers Conference) :-).

Mr. Bluelight!

Posted by Cecile at Thursday, November 13, 2008 0 comments
Have you been to Kmart lately? If not so, you better go. You wouldn’t believe the stuff you will see in there that you will get for the Holiday. I love to shop, I tell you and when I went online gone crazy for the things I saw in there. What great thing about Kmart is they have this Kmart Layaway program where you can choose the item you like most, then bring it to the layaway counter and pay and lastly, pay it every two weeks and then when you’re done paying it for eight weeks, you can finally take it home with you. This is really a great help especially if you can not afford to pay the items in full right away. Isn’t it great or what? You can always get whatever you want for Christmas at Kmart, from jewelries, baby furnitures, toys, bicycles, clothes, electronic appliances, Christmas lights and ornamets and more. I will definitely get a cashmere sweater this time for it is my wish to get one for myself. I remember Mr. Bluelight character and when I see him, it reminds me of the Christmas tree we purchase last year there, it was so pretty and and the price was unbeatable. All their christmas ornaments and decorations were on sale that time, so we bought all the ornaments we needed for the new christmas tree we have. We really enjoyed it last year.
