Burglary in the U.S.

Posted by Cecile at Tuesday, August 19, 2008
It is predicted that 3 out of 4 U.S. homes will be burglarized in the next 20 years.
In 2006, there were an estimated 2,183,746 burglaries committed in the U.S.
The average value of property stolen in a burglary is $1,800.
More than 60 percent of burglaries occur during the daytime.
In 2006, burglaries cost victims an estimated $4 billion in lost property.
Amateur burglars make up 70 percent of home intruders.
About 30 percent of private homes have security systems.
Homes without security systems are two to three times more likely to be broken into.
Most burglaries occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., when no one is likely to be at home.
Most burglars gain entry to a home through the front door, often because it has been left unlocked.
Homes in the middle of a block are much more likely to be burglarized than corner homes.
